Well, I didn't do my star-hopping practice as planned tonight. I didn't think before going out to setup the telescope and I had a can of Coke. Caffiene
isn't good for dark
adapting your eyes as it restricts the flow of blood. So instead I showed my Mom the Moon and M13. I found M13 easily again and she was impressed even though it was a fuzzy patch.
I decided to take it easy and sit in my lawn chair just taking in the big picture. I reacquainted myself with some of the constellations and looked for
more meteors like the one I saw on May 26. No meteors were seen but it was a nice relaxing time.
So then I decided to just sweep the sky and look for something interesting. Lo and behold, while sweeping between Bootes and Hercules I spotted a faint
object moving rather rapidly across my field of view. I followed what must have been a satellite half way across the sky before deciding to head in.
No I didn't really accomplish much other than enjoying the stars. Then again, that's what it's all about anyway. I also decided that when I have the
money saved for a new telescope, I would buy an 8-inch Meade LX200. The reflector is nice but it just becomes a bit difficult to use when you have the rotate the tube to get the eyepiece in
a comfortable position. I'm also frustrated with trying to correctly collimate the scope. And to top it all off, it's very difficult to focus stars to a point. Yeah, that LX200 will be nice!
