Finally, I was able to try some astrophotography. My first targets, as promised, were the moon and the Big Dipper double Alcor/Mizar. It will be very
interesting to see if any of the pictures are in focus and if they are too bright or too dark. I used ISO 200 Kodak film and made 12 exposures. That way it is cheaper for me to make the
mistakes I'm sure will happen as I learn to take
pictures of the sky. I'll be developing the photos tomorrow so I won't have to wait to see the results. I'll most likely post some of the first images to the site so you too can see how my first attempt went.
I still want an 8" LX200 and my soon to be wife (August 14th) promised me that when we buy a house (2 years from now) I can buy my dream telescope.
2 years is a long time but there is plenty I can do with my current scope until then.
Today I also checked the city lighting codes for my city, Bloomington MN. I was quite pleased that they require full cutoff lighting for all new
fixtures and every fixture will be full cutoff by 2010. Another reason to like this town! If you are interested in learning more about light pollution, visit the Internation Dark Skies
