Huge Sunspots!

  There are two enormous sunspots on the sun right now. They are so large that their surface area is larger than the surface area of all the planets in the solar system combined! Here is an image taken from the Sky and Telescope web site:

  I simply couldnít miss this so I hauled the scope out as soon as I got home from work and put the solar filter on. I saw exactly what the photo above shows. When I increased the magnificaton I could see a lot of detail in the central spot. These are the largest spots Iíve ever seen.

  Apparently the center spot sent out a huge storm of solar wind that will hit Earth tomorrow. There could be some very nice auroras from that. (Northern Lights)
